I started a large wall hanging almost thirty years ago. It consists of applique and very finely-stitched embroidery. It's unfinished. Ten years ago, I needed to start wearing glasses for close-work and I found that I still could not see well enough to work on this. The small detail that I'm showing here is based on Waterhouse's painting of the same name - it has to be one of my most favourite paintings of all time. Each little panel of the hanging varies in size; in some I've included glittery threads. The panels depict mermaids, fairies, elves, flowers, cats, diary items and all sorts of things. It was supposed to serve as a celebration of my life and the things I love.
The detail shown measures around 8"X5".
I'ved decided to move this from my scraps now that DA has anew category. I'll say sorry to my friends who have seen it before [you can ignore it, OK ]
wow. i didn't realise you were doing it all by hand until I looked at the full view. What a project. I have this painting on my wall.
I love the idea of a life celebration wall hanging.....hmmmm.....just one more thing for me to start?

Thanks! It was very ambitious to try. I have used a lot of different type threads to vary the textures - much of this is not even done in regular embroidery silks.
... Wow, this is AMAZING. Have you considered getting that lasik surgery, or is your eye condition the kind that won't be corrected with that? This piece is SO beautiful! I love the detail, the way her hair flows, the pink background is so cool... you're incredibly talented!
My eyes are not that bad really, I just can't thread the needles anymore. Someone suggested getting one of those magnified viewer screen things. That may help. Thank you so much. I really adore the original painting. Perhaps I will finish all that embroidery one day
Thank you. I'm not familiar with the song you mention. I used a postcard showing the painting 'Lady of Shallot' by Waterhouse', which itself is inspired by the poem of the same title by Tennyson - a poem I like a good deal.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P

I wish I could finish it; it's a piece of work that just grew and grew, each time I had a new idea.
Still, this looks very impressive to me
