Artist's Comments

This has been produced as the next drawing in the portrait series for I had to draw holding the portrait he had produced of holding her portrait. In the next few days, I'll have to submit a photo of myself holding this drawing for the next artist to use as a reference for their drawing. I hope that makes sense.

I found this very challenging. My biggest problem was drawing the hands as I couldn't quite discern the detail in the ref pic and I didn't want to just invent what I thought might be there (even though I've done this in other areas of the drawing). Beards and the hair on the arm was also a bit of a new challenge for me. I played around with the reference photo of the two Jeffs and moved his drawing up in my version so that I could come in closer. You can check this with the ref pic [link]
I thought the background was a bit too plain and used that white space by adding a stormy sky - I thought that would be quite fitting for Jeff. I have struggled in a few more places, but I'll let you decide which ones they are. I printed off the ref photo several times with varying levels of brightness and contrast in order to try and pick out details that appeared not there, a lot of guessing has taken place too.
Anyway, I hope Jeff likes it :)

Update 18th January - a link to the ref photo of me holding this drawing. Scary stuff :) [link]

Portraits are very had to do. You have my congrats on this though. You did a very good job of the proportions on the facial features which I find are the hardest parts of portraits. If things don't line up just right, it comes off looking odd. You did well here. Good job.

Interesting idea. You did a wonderful job on the details such as the facial hair and arm hair. And the eyes of the one on the right look so real :)
